Introduction to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

CSR refers to the way in which businesses regulate themselves in order to ensure that all of their activities positively affect society as a whole. CSR policies aim to guarantee that companies work ethically, considering human rights as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts of what they do as a business. Businesses should meet, and aim to exceed, any relevant legislation, and if legislation does not exist in a particular area, the company should ensure they carry out best practices anyway. Movus Law are committed to ensuring that any business undertakings are conducted as ethically as possible by following the below policy.

Who we are and what we do

Movus Law are residential conveyancers, providing advice to home movers nationwide. We are the positive link in the chain.

If you are buying or selling a home, you will need a conveyancer to help you and to undertake the various steps that will ensure ownership of the property is correctly transferred and in a way that is legally binding.

Buying or selling a home is likely to be one of the largest financial dealings that most people will make in their lifetime. Choosing the right legal expert to advise and guide through the process is key to ensuring that a transaction proceeds smoothly. Our conveyancers will make sure that our clients are kept fully abreast of matters as they occur, and that they are fully supported through what can be a stressful time.

As experts we will work with our clients as their hands-on legal guide to ensure any home move is undertaken with accuracy, providing comfort and reassurance.

Looking after Employees

Movus recognise that our employees are our most valuable assets. By ensuring, they feel supported through policies and practice, we strive to provide a platform for everyone to be themselves, to engage with the business and feel part of a team.

To achieve this, we want our policies and procedures to be clear and accessible, holding the Employee Handbook, Benefits and Wellbeing Package and Job descriptions centrally and to keep them visible to employees at all levels.

Through our employee rescores we continue to work towards socially mindful additions, such as our Domestic Abuse Policy which ensures any employee experiencing abuse can access help and has the means to move into a position of safety with support and empathy.

We understand the needs of business and our employee change over time and will continue to provide visibility, clarity and communication as these change, aiming to ensure the needs of the business and those of our employees remain balanced, visible and fair. We ensure our premises meet all health and safety standards through both our health and safety policies and our regular health and safety committee meetings which look to operate pro-actively rather than reactively.

We believe reviews are more than a tick-box exercise. Regular reviews, from annual appraisals to monthly catch-ups, aim to keep development organic and visible. Through these discussions, we can meet the needs of the business while keeping in mind employee goals and ensure that the personal development of the employee is a part of the business plan.

Development plans and training records are held centrally for accessibility and reference. Plans and records are considered at formal reviews and development is considered in the short, mid and long[1]term to facilitate success and continual growth.

Employees have access to a centralised HR team that operate for the wider group. HR operate under an open-door policy and are available to support on any topic, be it centred around work or at home.

If a scenario arises where HR are unable to assist or an employee is seeking support outside of the Firm, whatever the topic, we have an Employee Assistance Programme in place – details are held centrally and, in our Benefits, and Wellbeing information.

In the event of a dispute or issue, HR are dedicated to remaining impartial and where appropriate seeking informal resolution through communication and understanding.

Our employee benefits will continue to evolve along with our employees, offering the essentials such as Group Life Assurance and Flexible working, to helpful support benefits such as Child and Guardian First Aid Training, Paid Study Leave and health and wellbeing support.

Movus is dedicated to ensuring that no employee earns less than the recommended living wage as advised by the Living Wage Foundation, with salaries considered with current market rates, the Firm’s finances and the employee’s experience and performance in mind.

Looking after Customers

It is so important to look after our customers, to make sure that they have a positive and lasting impression of our business. That is why:

  • We have integrated a Portal that is directly linked with our case management system. This allows clients/agents and third parties to access to the portal that provides clear transparency as where we are with a transaction at any time.
  • We have dedicated phone numbers for all our employees to allow everyone to speak with a person who can assist and help.
  • We have integrated a platform called “review solicitors” that allows clients to leave feedback on their experience.
  • We recognise the best recommendations for the service we offer come via our current clients, which is why we always look to have a positive impact on people’s lives.

Suppliers’ Standards

Our relationship with Suppliers is viewed as a partnership. That is why we always look to treat our suppliers in a manner in which we would wish to be treated.

We ask all our suppliers to:

  • Provide evidence that they adhere to the Modern Slavery Act 2015
  • Provide evidence that they operate in line with the Bribery Act 2010
  • Where possible we look to use local suppliers.
  • We always look to pay our suppliers within a timely manner.
  • We ask all our suppliers for their CSR policy.
  • We are committed to clear communication with all our suppliers.

Protecting the Environment

It is important to commit to reducing the environment impact that our business activities may have.

That is why:

  • We work in a paper light way reducing paper consumption normally witnessed in traditional law practices. We recycle all our paper using a confidential waste service.
  • We select suppliers and products and services that think in the way we do, to reduce the impact on the environment.

Community Engagement

Movus understands the importance of our communities, both locally to the business and the wider, personal communities of our employees. We will engage with our employees and seek their guidance on the charities and causes we support through fund raising and awareness.

We aim to elect a charity to support for a period of time outside of singular events, which will be the Focus of the Business’ own charitable work. The elected charity will change to ensure we are providing support to a range of positive causes without our local community.

We understand that employees will have causes specific to the individual and were able, we will support them in their volunteer activities and fundraising.

Measurement

We are committed to ensuring all our policies and procedures are reviewed regularly and that all key performance indicators included in this document as well as other standard business metrics are reviewed either monthly, quarterly or 6 monthly.

Where appropriate decisions and changes are made to ensure both a continuous cycle of improvement is adopted alongside ensuring we strive to have positive impact in all that we do.
